Refer a Child

Dreams provide hope and inspiration to children and their families during the most difficult times. The Dream Factory is always looking for children who live in the Central Illinois area who are in need of help to live their dreams. Anyone can nominate a child for a dream - parents, family friends, physicians and nurses, teachers, social workers - and the process is simple.

Eligibility for a dream:

Qualifications for a dream:

  • Be a child aged 3 through 18 and live within a fifty mile radius of Central Illinois.
  • The child has never had a dream granted from any other wish-granting organization.
  • The child's dream must be his or her own. (Not that of a parent, gaurdian, or other concerned parties)
    • The child must be able to directly communicate his or her dream to Dream Factory volunteers.
    • In each illiness there should be a clear quality of life issue that is present and verifiable by the child's physician. (These standards are given to us by our National Headquarters.)
  • Must live in the Central Illinois Area. (Contact us to find out if you are in our region)

Steps in the referral process:

Step 1: The Referral:
If a child qualifies (see our Qualifications) anyone can refer them. To start this process, they fill out a referral form online (until a form is downloaded, please e-mail referrals)

Step 2: Medical Eligibility:
The child must be diagnosed with a critical or serious chronic illness. There should be a clear quality of life issue that is present and verifiable by the child's attending physician. We go by the guidelines given by our National Headquarters on what is and what is not an elligible illness.

Step 3: Finding the Dream:
Dream Screeners are dedicated and compassionate volunteers who are tasked with finding out the dream of the child. The Dream Screener will interview the child to determine the child's dream. If there are dream limitations due to the illness of the child, we'll work closely with the child and family to provide a dream that is appropriate and safe for that child's physical abilities.

Step 4: Creating Lasting Memories:
Once a child's screening process is complete, our volunteer Dream Managers will get to work coordinating the necessary arrangements and special touches for making a one of a kind and memorable experience for the children and their family.
