About Us

What is the Dream Factory?

The Dream Factory is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization devoted to granting the dreams of critically and chronically ill children aged 3 through 18. Founded in 1980 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, it has since become the second largest wish-granting organization in the United States with over 38 chapters. Our local chapters are run entirely by over 5,000 dedicated volunteers who have helped fulfill the Dreams of more than 25,000 children since 1980. The Central Illinois chapter of the Dream Factory has been granting Dreams to the children of Central Illinois since 1982. We are Central Illinois’ Hometown wish-granting organization.

How does The Dream Factory differ from other wish-granting organizations?

The Dream Factory differs from other wish-granting organizations in three distinct ways:

  1. The Dream Factory is the only children's wish-granting organization that grants Dreams to children with chronic illness as well as life-threatening illnesses. We believe that children with a chronic illness should also be given a reprieve from their constant struggle with medical problems. We strive to provide happiness, inspiration and hope for children and their families so they may have a little extra strength to face the difficult and emotional times ahead.
  2. The Dream Factory Inc. is an all-volunteer organization on the chapter level with a small staff at our national headquarters located in Louisville, KY.
  3. Our dedicated volunteers raise money in their own communities and then use those funds to grant the dreams of local children. Because of this grassroots approach to fundraising, 90% of all funds raised remains in the community of origin to help grant dreams to local children.

Who can receive a dream?

  • In order for a child to receive a dream, he or she must meet the following criteria: Be a child aged 3 through 18 and live within a 50 mile radius of Central Illinois.
  • Have a critical or severe chronic illness, which must be verified by the child's primary physician.
Have not received a dream from any other wish-granting organization.
  • The dream must be the child's own and not that of a parent, guardian or other concerned party. The child must be able to communicate that dream to a Dream Factory representative.
